About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Azure Data Migration Specialist for a freelance remote engagement supporting a large-scale enterprise cloud modernization program within the banking sector.
This role involves migrating enterprise databases, applications, APIs, ETL workloads, and infrastructure from on-premises and AWS environments into Microsoft Azure. The successful candidate will help deliver secure, highly available, and low-downtime migrations while ensuring regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
This is an opportunity to work on complex enterprise-scale cloud migration projects in a highly collaborative environment with architects, developers, DevOps engineers, DBAs, and security teams. Key Responsibilities
Assess SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Teradata, and NoSQL databases for Azure migration readiness.
Analyze application, database, API, and ETL dependencies.
Design migration strategies including lift-and-shift, re-platforming, modernization, and low-downtime migrations.
Migrate enterprise databases using Azure Database Migration Service (DMS), SSMA, SQLPackage, Azure Data Factory, and custom Python scripts.
Redesign and migrate ETL workloads into Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Synapse Pipelines.
Perform comprehensive data validation including row counts, checksums, hash comparisons, schema validation, referential integrity, and reconciliation.
Optimize migrated databases through query tuning, indexing, execution plan analysis, and performance monitoring.
Provision Azure infrastructure using Terraform following Infrastructure as Code (IaC) best practices.
Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure, databases, ETL workloads, and Azure resources.
Implement enterprise security using Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Key Vault, RBAC, TDE, TLS, and audit controls.
Coordinate application, API, and database migrations to ensure seamless deployment and minimal downtime.
Support production stabilization, monitoring, incident resolution, and root cause analysis after migration.
Collaborate with cloud architects, developers, DBAs, DevOps, infrastructure, and security teams throughout the migration lifecycle.
