Job Description:
As a Game Data Annotation / Labelling Engineer at Sony India Software Centre, you will play a critical role in preparing high-quality game datasets for AI and machine learning initiatives. The role primarily requires experience in game data annotation, including reviewing gameplay footage, labelling game objects and UI elements, tagging player actions and events, and validating annotations against project guidelines. You will work closely with data scientists, machine learning engineers, QA teams, and game-domain stakeholders to ensure datasets are accurate, consistent, and ready for model training. The ideal candidate has a keen eye for gameplay detail, strong familiarity with game environments, and a disciplined approach to annotation quality.
Role & responsibilities
Annotate, label, and categorize gameplay videos, screenshots, telemetry snippets, and related game data with a high level of accuracy.
Identify in-game objects, characters, UI elements, environments, player actions, camera states, scene transitions, and gameplay events.
Draw bounding boxes, polygons, or segmentation masks around game objects, characters, interactable items, UI elements, and relevant visual states.
Tag gameplay commentary, player intent, instructions, reactions, failures, achievements, and contextual background information.
Apply and improve game-specific annotation taxonomies, labelling guidelines, and edge-case decision rules.
Report ambiguous game states, inconsistent labels, tool issues, corrupted media, or annotation guideline gaps for review.
Provide feedback to improve game annotation workflows, tool usability, label definitions, and quality review processes.
Flag incomplete captures, low-quality gameplay recordings, missing frames, unreadable UI, or unusable game assets for review.
Maintain productivity targets while consistently delivering high-quality game annotation output.
Accurately annotate datasets including gameplay images, videos, text, event logs, and player interaction data according to specified guidelines.
Review and validate game annotation work for quality, consistency, and alignment with project requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand game-domain requirements and deliver completed datasets on time.
Support refinement of annotation tools and processes so they align with game data workflows and model training needs.
Track and maintain records of completed tasks, productivity, quality metrics, and recurring game-data edge cases.
Preferred candidate profile
- 3+ years Hands-on experience in game data annotation is the primary requirement
- Robust understanding of gameplay videos, screenshots, player actions, game UI, in-game objects, and game events
- Accurate visual, audio, event, and action labelling for game datasets
- Good observation skills and the ability to interpret gameplay context across different game genres
- Ability to follow detailed game-specific annotation guidelines and resolve edge cases consistently
- Strong organization and time-management skills
- Good with Excel or similar tools for tracking tasks, quality metrics, and annotation progress
Tool Knowledge (Good to Have)
- Experience using tools like Labelme / LabelImg / CVAT / Label Studio / VGG Image Annotator, or similar annotation platforms. Game testing, bug tracking, or gameplay capture tool familiarity is good to have. .
