01Overview

Position: Deputy QA Head for Container Glass Manufacturing Job Location: Pondicherry & Bahadurgarh Reports To: Head of Quality Assurance Experience: 812 years of experience in quality assurance within the container glass industry. At least 35 years in a supervisory or sectional leadership role. Strong exposure to beer bottle or alcoholic beverage container production preferred Educational Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Glass Technology, Ceramic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Job Purpose: The Asst Manager Quality Assurance is responsible for leading and controlling a designated QA section within the container glass manufacturing process to ensure that glass containers (beer and alcoholic beverage bottles) consistently meet internal quality standards, customer specifications, and applicable regulatory requirements. The role focuses on defect prevention, process control, compliance, and continuous improvement while supporting customer satisfaction and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities 1. Quality Management & Control Ensure compliance with quality standards for container glass used in alcoholic beverage packaging (e.g., dimensional accuracy, strength, cosmetic quality, and performance requirements). Implement and maintain QA systems and procedures aligned with ISO 9001, FSSC, or other applicable quality frameworks. Monitor and control critical quality parameters across hot end and cold end processes. Ensure adherence to customer specifications for beer bottles (e.g., capacity, weight, finish, internal pressure resistance, thermal shock). 2. Process & Product Quality Assurance Lead quality control activities for the assigned section (e.g., hot end samples inspection, annealing, cold-end inspection, laboratory testing). Analyze process capability, defect trends, and inspection data to identify root causes of quality issues. Ensure effective use and calibration of inspection systems (vision inspection machines, pressure testers, stress measurement devices). Coordinate with Production and Engineering teams to eliminate recurring defects such as checks, stones, blisters, bird swings, uneven thickness, and cosmetic defects. 3. Team Leadership & Development Supervise, coach, and develop QA officers, inspectors, and technicians within the assigned section. Assign duties, monitor performance, and ensure adequate manpower coverage across shifts. Conduct training on quality standards, defect identification, inspection techniques, and safety practices. Foster a culture of quality awareness and accountability on the shop floor. 4. Customer & Complaint Management Support the Head of QA in handling customer complaints related to bottle quality and performance. Lead root cause analysis (RCA), corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and effectiveness verification. Participate in customer audits, technical discussions, and quality performance reviews. Ensure timely closure of customer issues with documented evidence and corrective actions. 5. Quality Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate quality records, inspection reports, control charts, and test results. Prepare periodic quality performance reports for management review. Ensure proper document control for SOPs, work instructions, and quality standards relevant to the section. Support internal and external audits by providing data, records, and technical explanations. 6. Continuous Improvement Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects, scrap, rejections, and customer returns. Apply quality tools such as SPC, Pareto analysis, 5-Why, and Fishbone analysis. Participate in cross-functional improvement projects related to productivity, yield, and cost reduction. Benchmark best practices in container glass quality assurance and inspection technologies. 7. Safety, Compliance & Housekeeping Ensure compliance with plant safety rules, statutory regulations, and environmental requirements. Promote safe handling of glass containers, inspection equipment, and laboratory instruments. Maintain high standards of housekeeping and 5S within the QA section Key Interfaces: Internal: Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Laboratory, EHS External: Customers (breweries and beverage companies), auditors, inspection equipment suppliers Skills & Competencies: Strong knowledge of container glass manufacturing processes and defects Expertise in QA systems, inspection methods, and laboratory testing Analytical and problem-solving skills Leadership and people management capabilities Effective communication and coordination skills Customer-oriented mindset Proficiency in quality tools and data analysis Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Customer complaint rate and closure effectiveness Defect rate, rejection rate, and scrap reduction Process .
