Freelance Research Scientist Algal Taxonomy (Remote)

Job Overview We are seeking a Freelance Research Scientist to work on morphotaxonomic analysis and digital documentation of algal biodiversity using pre-collected datasets. All field-collected samples and datasets will be provided, and the role focuses on microscopic analysis, species identification, taxonomic classification, and digitization of algal flora data. This project contributes to biodiversity research, ecological assessment, and structured taxonomic database development. Key Responsibilities Analyze provided datasets and specimen records of algal flora Perform morphotaxonomic identification of algal species Conduct microscopic evaluation of algae using provided slide images/data Record morphological features such as shape, structure, size, and pigmentation Prepare taxonomic descriptions based on existing datasets Develop digital taxonomic records and classification keys using DELTA software Contribute to the creation of a structured digital biodiversity database Document habitat, locality, and distribution information from provided datasets Prepare scientific research reports suitable for academic publication Required Qualifications Masters or Ph.D. in Botany / Phycology / Plant Taxonomy / Environmental Biology / Life Sciences Strong academic background in algal taxonomy or freshwater ecology Understanding of phytoplankton diversity and classification systems Required Skills & Tools Laboratory & Analysis Skills Microscopic analysis of algal morphology Taxonomic identification and classification Slide image interpretation Digital & Research Tools DELTA (Descriptive Language for Taxonomy) software Digital imaging and taxonomic databases Data organization and biodiversity informatics tools Core Expertise Algal taxonomy and morphology Major algal groups: Chlorophyceae Cyanophyceae Bacillariophyceae Euglenophyceae Xanthophyceae Experience Required Minimum 2+ years experience in phycology, taxonomy, or biodiversity research Experience in: Algal identification using microscopic or digital data Taxonomic documentation and classification Biodiversity data management or digital herbarium creation Prior experience in dataset-based biological research preferred Key Skills Strong understanding of algal morphology and taxonomy Experience in freshwater biodiversity studies Scientific writing and research documentation Ability to work independently with structured datasets Familiarity with biodiversity databases and taxonomy tools Contact person: Gray-+91-XXXXXXXXXX Job Types: Part-time, Freelance, Volunteer Compensation: From 10,000.00 per month Work Location: Remote .
