Job Description
A Geological Engineer is responsible for investigating, analyzing, and evaluating geological conditions to support construction, mining, energy, environmental, and infrastructure projects. The role involves conducting geological surveys, interpreting subsurface data, assessing soil and rock properties, and providing engineering recommendations to ensure the safe and efficient design and execution of projects. Geological Engineers collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to minimize geological risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote sustainable resource development.
Responsibilities
- Conduct geological, geotechnical, and site investigations for engineering and construction projects.
- Analyze soil, rock, groundwater, and subsurface conditions using field observations and laboratory data.
- Prepare geological maps, cross-sections, and technical reports.
- Assess geological hazards such as landslides, erosion, seismic activity, and ground instability.
- Recommend foundation designs, excavation methods, and slope stabilization solutions based on geological findings.
- Supervise drilling, borehole logging, sampling, and geotechnical testing activities.
- Interpret geological and geophysical data to support project planning and design.
- Collaborate with civil, mining, environmental, and structural engineers to develop safe and cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
- Monitor site conditions during construction, mining, or infrastructure development and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
- Evaluate mineral, groundwater, and natural resource potential where applicable.
- Prepare feasibility studies, risk assessments, and geological documentation for project approvals.
- Utilize geological modeling, GIS, CAD, and specialized engineering software to analyze and present data.
- Maintain accurate project records, technical documentation, and field reports.
- Stay updated with advancements in geological engineering techniques, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
