01Overview

Role Summary You will work as part of Valbrid's mechanical engineering team supporting international power-transformer engineering projects. The role focuses on creating and updating power transformer mechanical designs in SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM, including 3D models, General Arrangement drawings, fabrication and sub-assembly drawings, part drawings and BoMs. You will work from customer work instructions, engineering standards and reference designs, with strong ownership for drawing quality, revision control and delivery commitments. What You Will Work On - Power transformer mechanical assemblies and accessories, including tanks, covers, cable boxes / bushing arrangements, conservators, radiator or cooler-bank interfaces, kiosks, tap changer interfaces, brackets, pipework and associated fittings. - General Arrangement (GA) drawings, manufacturing / fabrication drawings, assembly and sub-assembly drawings, and detailed part drawings. - Engineering changes and repeat / reference-based designs where an existing model or drawing is adapted to a new customer requirement while maintaining design intent and drawing control. - BoM updates, drawing metadata, revisions and controlled engineering data within SolidWorks PDM. Key Responsibilities - Create and modify accurate 3D models and 2D engineering drawings using SolidWorks. - Prepare GA drawings and complete manufacturing drawing packs for fabrication, assembly and shop-floor use. - Develop fabrication and part drawings with clear dimensions, tolerances, materials, weld / fabrication details and manufacturing information as applicable. - Interpret customer Work Instructions (WI), specifications, reference drawings and existing models, and translate them into controlled mechanical design outputs. - Check overall and transport envelopes, interface locations, bushing / cable-box arrangements, gland-plate locations, access requirements and other site-critical dimensions shown on the design. - Update BoMs and maintain correct file, revision and lifecycle information in SolidWorks PDM. - Review your own work thoroughly for dimensional consistency, completeness, manufacturability, clashes and drawing quality before submitting for checking. - Work closely with Valbrid and international customer engineering teams, raise technical queries early and keep commitments visible when clarification is required. - Deliver assigned work to agreed quality and schedule while taking ownership of the complete engineering output, not only CAD creation. Must-Have Skills - Strong hands-on experience with SolidWorks for 3D modelling, assemblies and 2D production drawings. - Good engineering drawing knowledge and the ability to produce fabrication / manufacturing drawings that can be used confidently by a shop floor. - Experience with BoMs, part numbering, drawing revisions and engineering change control. - Practical understanding of fabricated structures, sheet metal, weldments, machined parts and assembly interfaces. - Working knowledge of dimensions, tolerances and GD&T; fundamentals. - Ability to read complex mechanical assemblies and identify missing dimensions, clashes, interface risks or inconsistencies. - Good attention to detail, disciplined self-checking and a strong quality mindset. - Clear written and verbal communication, with the confidence to ask questions when requirements are unclear. Preferred Experience - SolidWorks PDM / EPDM or another controlled Product Data Management workplace. - Hands-on experience with additional CAD and data-management tools such as Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault. - Experience with reverse-engineering and scan-to-CAD workflows using tools such as Geomagic. - Working experience in the design, detailing or engineering of large rotating machines such as motors, generators, alternators or similar heavy electrical equipment. - Mechanical design experience in power transformers, heavy electrical equipment, switchgear, process equipment or other heavy-engineering products. - Design of tanks, enclosures, frames, brackets, cable boxes, piping interfaces, welded fabrications or large industrial assemblies. - Experience working with global customers or engineering teams, especially UK / European drawing and review practices. - Experience adapting existing products / reference designs rather than designing every assembly from a blank sheet. Candidate Profile - 3-7 years of relevant mechanical design experience. - B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering preferred; Diploma candidates with strong relevant experience are welcome to apply. - Comfortable working from Valbrid's Chennai office and collaborating closely with a UK engineering team. - Able to work independently once requirements and standards are understood, while remaining comfortable with review, checking and feedback. - Candidates who can join immediately or within 30 days will be preferred. What Makes This Role Different This is not a CAD operator role. The engineer is .
