Whatever the outcome, we believe important research deserves thoughtful strategy and the right ecosystem to maximize its impact. Three things get decided before any money arrives, whichever way it goes. Who owns the intellectual property. Under most institutional policies, that is your institution rather than you, and faculty agreements usually assign inventions automatically. What you have already published, and when. A paper that goes out before a patent is filed can quietly end the patent. What your technology transfer office will want in return. Its duty runs to the institution, so it is a negotiation rather than a form. The money itself is usually not investment. For most work at this stage the right first step is non-dilutive. BIRAC's BIG scheme funds individuals and young companies up to 50 lakh over 18 months and is open to scientists, faculty and research scholars, and DBT and ICMR run parallel routes. Taking equity money too early, against thin evidence, sets a price the science cannot grow into.
