As an Associate Medical Coder at Optum, your core duties will include:
Inpatient Medical Record Review: Review and code inpatient medical charts and physician notes using official ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems.
AHA & CMS Guidelines Compliance: Apply official coding guidelines established by the American Hospital Association (AHA) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Discrepancy Resolution & Queries: Identify documentation gaps or discrepancies in medical charts and raise queries with clinical documentation improvement (CDI) teams.
HIPAA & Quality SLAs: Maintain high coding accuracy as per client quality SLAs, adhering strictly to HIPAA guidelines and patient privacy rules.
CMS Disposition Reporting: Accurately report discharge disposition codes according to CMS regulations and maintain required productivity targets.
Graduate or Postgraduate in Pharmacy (B.Pharm, M.Pharm), Life Sciences (B.Sc, M.Sc), Nursing, Dental (BDS/MDS), Homeopathy (BHMS), Ayurveda (BAMS), Physiotherapy (BPT), or Allied Medical Sciences.
Mandatory Certification: Active AAPC (CPC, CPC-H) or AHIMA (CCS, CCS-P) certification.
In-depth knowledge of Human Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, and Medical Terminology.
Proficiency in ICD-10-CM diagnosis coding and ICD-10-PCS procedure coding guidelines.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for clinical chart reviews.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. .
