Job Summary
As a Senior Android Automotive HMI Developer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and integrating next-generation Human Machine Interface (HMI) solutions for Android Automotive OS (AAOS) based infotainment systems. You will collaborate closely with UX designers, system architects, OEM customers, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver intuitive, scalable, and high-performance in-vehicle user experiences. This is a highly technical individual contributor role requiring strong expertise in Android application development, automotive frameworks, and modern UI technologies.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Android Automotive HMI applications for Infotainment, Navigation, Media, Vehicle Settings, Climate Control, and Connected Services.
- Lead the development of scalable and reusable HMI software architectures aligned with OEM requirements and Android Automotive best practices.
- Develop user interfaces using Android SDK, Jetpack components, MVVM architecture, and modern UI frameworks such as Jetpack Compose.
- Integrate applications with Android Automotive platform services, Vehicle HAL (VHAL), Car Service APIs, and middleware components.
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers to translate design concepts, wireframes, and prototypes into production-quality software.
- Optimize application performance, startup time, memory utilization, and responsiveness for embedded automotive platforms.
- Work closely with platform, BSP, middleware, validation, and integration teams to ensure seamless feature delivery.
- Participate in software design reviews, code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical mentoring of junior developers.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across application, framework, and vehicle integration layers.
- Ensure compliance with automotive quality standards, cybersecurity requirements, and OEM development processes.
- Support software releases, customer demonstrations, integration activities, and field issue investigations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, development best practices, and technical innovation within the organization.
What You Need to Be Successful
- Bachelor s or Master s degree in computer science, Electronics, Embedded Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
- 8 -12 years of experience in Android application development, including significant experience in Android Automotive OS.
- Robust proficiency in Java and Kotlin programming languages.
- Deep understanding of Android Framework, Android Architecture Components, and application lifecycle management.
- Hands-on experience with Android Automotive OS (AAOS), Car APIs, Vehicle HAL (VHAL), and Vehicle Property integrations.
- Experience in developing HMI applications for IVI (In-Vehicle Infotainment) systems.
- Expertise in MVVM, Clean Architecture, Dependency Injection (Dagger/Hilt), and modern software design patterns.
- Strong knowledge of Jetpack Compose and traditional Android UI development methodologies.
- Experience with Android build systems including Gradle, Android Studio, Gerrit, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Good understanding of Linux-based embedded systems and software debugging techniques.
- Strong experience with performance optimization, memory analysis, profiling, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle processes, Agile methodologies, and automotive product development.
- Knowledge of communication protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, SOME/IP, and vehicle diagnostics concepts.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Bonus Points if You Have
- Master s degree in computer science, Automotive Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience working with leading automotive OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers.
- Hands-on experience with Android Automotive customization, System UI, Launcher, and Settings applications.
- Knowledge of Google Automotive Services (GAS) integration and certification processes.
- Experience with Qualcomm, NXP, Renesas, or similar automotive SoC platforms.
- Familiarity with Automotive SPICE (ASPICE), Functional Safety (ISO 26262), and Cybersecurity (ISO 21434).
- Experience with vehicle diagnostics, OTA updates, and connected vehicle services.
- Exposure to cloud-connected automotive ecosystems and telematics solutions.
- Contributions to Android Open Source Project (AOSP) or open-source software communities.
- Experience leading technical teams, mentoring developers, and driving architectural initiatives.
