About the Role We are seeking experienced Mortgage Underwriters to join a dynamic mortgage operations team supporting the US mortgage industry. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience underwriting Conventional and Non-QM mortgage loans, with a strong understanding of mortgage lending guidelines, risk assessment, income analysis, and regulatory compliance. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make sound underwriting decisions while maintaining service-level commitments in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Loan Underwriting & Risk Assessment Review and underwrite residential mortgage loan applications. Evaluate Conventional, Non-QM, and DSCR mortgage products. Assess borrower eligibility through detailed analysis of income, assets, credit history, employment, and property-related documentation. Perform risk assessments and determine loan eligibility in accordance with investor and regulatory requirements. Income Analysis Analyze various income documentation types, including:W-2 and salaried incomeSelf-employed borrower incomeBank statement programsAsset depletion programs1099 incomeITIN loansProfit & Loss (P&L) only programsVerify income stability and repayment capacity. Compliance & Quality Ensure adherence to agency, investor, company, and regulatory guidelines. Review documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance. Support quality control and audit requirements. Maintain accurate underwriting records and decision documentation. Loan Decisioning Issue approvals, conditions, suspensions, or denials based on underwriting findings. Review and clear underwriting conditions. Evaluate resubmitted documentation and make final underwriting decisions. Stakeholder Management Collaborate with loan officers, processors, brokers, and internal operations teams. Provide guidance regarding underwriting requirements and documentation needs. Support efficient loan processing and timely decision-making. Continuous Learning Stay updated on mortgage industry trends, investor requirements, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory changes. Participate in training and process improvement initiatives. Required Qualifications Education :Bachelor's Degree (Mandatory) Experience 25 years of US Mortgage Underwriting experience.Experience underwriting Conventional and/or Non-QM loan products.Exposure to DSCR loan products is preferred. Technical Knowledge Strong knowledge of: Fannie Mae underwriting guidelines Freddie Mac underwriting guidelines Non-QM lending programs DSCR underwriting requirements Understanding of mortgage compliance and regulatory standards. Systems Knowledge Experience working with: Loan Origination Systems (LOS) Desktop Underwriter (DU) Loan Product Advisor (LP/Loan Prospector) Mortgage document management platforms Skills & Competencies Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills. Excellent decision-making abilities. High attention to detail and accuracy. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple loan files simultaneously. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to perform effectively in a high-volume production environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience in Non-QM underwriting.
