Remote Senior Accountant- Financial Reporting

As a Senior Accountant, you will play a critical role in shaping and defending how financial information is prepared and reported, ensuring accuracy and compliance across the organization.ResponsibilitiesIndependently evaluate complex and unusual financial results, assess reasonableness, and determine appropriate accounting and reporting treatment, clearly articulating conclusions and implications to stakeholdersDesign, maintain, and evaluate the effectiveness of financial controls across all accounting and reporting responsibilitiesOwn the end-to-end accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting deliverables, serving as the final technical reviewer prior to submissionDirect, review, and approve complex reconciliations across reporting tools, exhibits, and regulatory filings; independently resolve variances and determine corrective actionsReview, approve, and establish accounting processes and procedures, including complex reports and profitability measuresOwn the administration and governance of enterprise financial reporting systems and approve document repositories, ensuring data integrity, version control, and audit-ready documentation; Oracle EPM (FCC, reporting or consolidation tools) preferredEnsure compliance with statutory accounting principles (SSAPs) and state regulatory requirements, researching changes and recommending updatesAnticipate the needs and questions of report recipients and proactively address them through clear reporting and narrativeServe as a technical accounting subject-matter expert by researching complex transactions, interpreting applicable guidance, and establishing well-supported accounting positionsEmploy professional skepticism, discernment and an inquisitive mindset related to current accounting processesAct as the primary accounting and reporting advisor to business and finance partners, translating complex technical requirements into clear implications, risks, and required actionsIdentify, lead, and execute complex reporting, compliance, and system improvement initiatives, independently scoping solutions, aligning stakeholders, and driving implementationLead and participate in complex project work representing Corporate Accounting, including system implementations, close process improvements, and cross-functional initiativesEstablish, approve, and maintain authoritative documentation supporting accounting conclusions, methodologies, and regulatory positions, ensuring defensibility under audit and regulatory reviewProvide technical guidance, formal review, and mentorship to accounting staff, raising the quality, consistency, and discipline of financial reporting deliverablesServe as a trusted senior partner to internal and external stakeholders by anticipating reporting needs, identifying risks early, and proactively communicating impacts and resolutionsSkillsMaster's degree in Accounting or Finance or related field and 2 years of experience in accountingBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or related field and 4 years of experience in accountingOr 6 years of experience in AccountingInsurance industry experience preferredHighly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access and analytics software (i.e. Power BI)Oracle EPM experience preferredBenefitsExtensive health and wellness benefits to promote flexibility, work-life balance, and long-term financial securityCompany OverviewSince our beginning in 1876, Central Insurance has evolved into a successful property and casualty group operating on a strong foundation of core values including Integrity in the way we operate our business; Relationships we develop working as a team and sharing in each others successes; and Excellence achieved by never compromising on quality, providing superior performance, and pursuing continual improvements.
