Overview This role holder will be responsible for completing and checking a wide range of actuarial work for UK Defined Benefit retirement clients. He or she will work with the team to deliver actuarial calculations and reports for a portfolio of clients to meet their requirements. How you'll make an impact Responsibilities Acting as an actuarial and consulting assistant for portfolio of clientsHandling the preparation of actuarial valuations and cost estimates Undertaking and supervising accounting disclosures (FRS17, IAS19 and USGAAP)Coordinating data collection including editing and testing data received from clientsUndertaking and checking all aspects of actuarial work associated with pension schemesPreparing letters, reports and other client materialsAssisting in developing administrative procedures and forms used by clientsChecking day to day individual calculations as requestedParticipating in Buck internal projects, handling special projects or assignments as neededAssisting scheme consultants with the consultancy aspects of pension schemesEstablishing strong working relationships with clientsPreparing for and attending client meetings, as requiredProviding leadership, feedback and training to actuarial analystsBuilding up consulting knowledge on actuarial and non-actuarial aspects of pension plansOn qualification, to progress towards holding responsibility for a portfolio of clients and acting as a client manager for a number of these Peer reviewing and ensuring own work is peer reviewed as appropriateMaintaining accurate time recording and charging to clients where applicableStaying abreast of latest industry developments and requirements of applicable regulatory bodiesAdhering to Corporate Policies and Procedures (CCPs)Reporting any suspected breaches to management/compliance department upon discoveryCompetencies: Leading Self Leading self - Focuses on how we lead ourselves and react to situationsIntegrity & trust - Focuses on doing the right thing and taking personal responsibilitiesLeading Others & Relationships Builds relationships & networks - Focuses on building diverse networks and accepting differenceCollaborates - Focuses on sharing, supporting and being inclusive to achieve mutually beneficial outcomesCommunicates & influences - Focuses on clear communication, influencing and negotiating Leading Results Client Excellence - Focuses on understanding and meeting the needs of internal and external clients for now and the future of a long term relationshipPlanning - Focuses on building plans and obtaining resources and ensuring alignment across teams and the businessDrive for results - Focuses on performance and removing obstacles to achieve results Leading the Business Business Acumen - Focuses on analysing and solving problemsStrategy - Focuses on strategic thinking and understanding broader context affecting Gallagher and the industryInnovation - Focuses on creative thinking, generating new ideas and embedding the necessary change About you Qualifications Experience within the UK defined benefit pensions actuarial environmentExperience of work in one or more of the following areas:Pension scheme funding valuationsPension accounting disclosures (FRS17, IAS19 and USGAAP)Individual actuarial calculations for pension scheme members (e.g. transfer values)Actuarial factors Pension data analysis Guaranteed Minimum Pension (GMP) equalisationStrong communication skills (but not necessarily any experience communicating with clients)Able to prioritise, organise and carry out tasks within deadlinesGood numeracy and literacy skills Proactive and a team playerAttention to detailComputer literateGood numerical/mathematics-based degree Good progress through the actuarial exams Additional Information At Gallagher, we believe supporting our colleagues goes far beyond the role itself.
