01Overview
About the role
Senior Backend Engineers are the technical authority within their Squads. They set the implementation standard, review code, challenge domain model decisions, and work directly with the Lending Platform Architect to ensure that what gets built aligns with the broader technical direction. You are not waiting for architecture to be handed down - you are co-creating it.
Key Responsibilities
Domain System Design & Implementation
Design and implement backend services for lending system features - stateful, event-driven services that handle loan state transitions, EMI calculations, credit decisions, and collection actions with correctness and auditabilityOwn the technical design for features within the squad - review BRDs from the BA, challenge ambiguity, propose system design, and submit ADRs to the Lending Platform Architect for reviewImplement financial calculation logic with precision - interest accrual, EMI rounding, penal charge computation, and prepayment adjustment algorithms that are mathematically exact and consistently appliedDesign and implement audit logging for lending operations - loan state transitions, credit decisions, collection actions, and data access events logged with sufficient detail for RBI examinationBuild and maintain bureau API integrations - CIBIL, Equifax, and CRIF integrations with appropriate retry logic, error handling, and response caching for a cost-sensitive production environment
AI Integration & Modern Engineering
Integrate ML model outputs from the Analytics squad - EWS scores, credit model results, and collection propensity scores consumed via clean API contracts with fallback handling and explainability outputUse Cursor and Claude as primary development tools - AI-assisted coding, test generation, and documentation is the expected way of working, not an optional enhancementImplement the Lending Platform Architect's API contract standards - contract-first development, OpenAPI specification, versioning discipline, and backward compatibilityBuild agentic AI workflow integrations as they are designed by the Architect - the Senior Engineer is responsible for the implementation quality of AI-integrated features
Code Quality & Technical Leadership
Set and maintain code quality standards within the squad - code review, refactoring discipline, test coverage expectations, and the mentoring of Intermediate and Associate engineersOwn technical debt identification and remediation within your service domain - maintain a visible tech debt backlog and advocate for remediation time in sprint planningContribute to the Backend Guild - share domain knowledge, present ADRs, and participate in cross-squad technical discussions led by the Lending Platform ArchitectWrite and maintain technical documentation - system design documents, API documentation, runbooks, and architecture decision records that teams can rely on
RequirementsProfessional Experience
6 to 8 years in backend engineering with genuine ownership of production systems, not just feature contribution but system design, incident response, and technical mentoringExperience in fintech, NBFC, banking, or any regulated financial domain, understands what audit readiness means and has built systems where correctness is non-negotiableHas designed APIs that other teams consumed, understands the discipline of API contract stability, versioning, and the real cost of breaking changesActive AI tool user uses Cursor and Claude for development work today; the AI-native way of working is standard practice, not aspirational
Mindset & Soft Skills
Domain ownership takes responsibility for the correctness of lending calculations and workflows - 'the BA spec said so' is not sufficient when the calculation is wrongPrecision engineering: financial systems require precision that product applications don't - you have the discipline to care about rounding modes, overflow handling, and audit trailsAI-native: AI-native developer: Cursor and Claude are open all day - code, tests, and documentation are AI-assisted as standard practiceMentor: Technical mentor: comfortable reviewing code, giving direct feedback, and developing junior engineers - seniority means responsibility, not isolation
