01Overview
As a Process Engineer specializing in Peptides and Small Molecule Science at Lilly, your role involves providing technical leadership and hands-on engineering support for the design, optimization, and scale-up of laboratory-based processes to enable robust manufacturing of drug substances and products. Your responsibilities include:
- Partnering with TS/MS and analytical scientists in India, US, and Ireland to design, develop, and refine laboratory-scale processes.
- Establishing, maintaining, and optimizing unit operations in the process development lab such as chromatography, filtration, mixing, and others.
- Developing scale-down models for process characterization, robustness studies, and troubleshooting.
- Conducting hands-on laboratory experimentation, data analysis, and technical reporting for key development and manufacturing decisions.
Additionally, you will be responsible for:
- Supporting tech transfer activities by preparing process documentation and enabling smooth movement of processes from lab to pilot or manufacturing scale.
- Implementing long-term improvements based on lab experimentation and applying engineering fundamentals for innovative solutions.
- Collaborating with automation, analytical, mechanical, and instrumentation engineering groups to introduce new tools and technologies.
- Partnering with Quality, TS/MS, and manufacturing to align development activities with long-term production needs.
Qualifications required for this role include:
- Ph.D. in scientific disciplines such as Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields, or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in process development, lab-scale engineering, or manufacturing support in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries.
- Experience with process modeling software, working knowledge of GMP expectations, and laboratory quality systems.
- Demonstrated experience in technology transfer, scale-up/down, and laboratory-scale unit operations relevant to the role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work independently.
