About the job Company Description Wild Zebra is an AI-driven learning platform that uses advanced data analysis to identify each student’s knowledge gaps and learning needs. The product engages learners through dynamic, personalized conversations that help them master core skills rather than simply providing solutions. By focusing on meaningful, interactive learning, Wild Zebra aims to make high-quality education more accessible and effective. The company is committed to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and enabling them to succeed through tailored, technology-enabled instruction. Role Description This full-time Senior Software Engineer role is a hybrid position based in the Greater Seattle Area, with flexibility for partial work from home. In this role, you will design, implement, and maintain back-end services and APIs that power Wild Zebra’s AI-driven learning experiences. You will collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and other engineers to translate educational requirements into scalable, reliable software solutions. Day-to-day responsibilities include writing clean, testable code, conducting code reviews, optimizing system performance, and ensuring robust security and data integrity. You will also help define technical architecture, mentor team members, and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices and tooling. Qualifications Strong foundation in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems concepts. Proficiency in Software Development and Programming, with experience building production-grade applications and services. Hands-on expertise in Back-End Web Development, including API design, microservices, and integration with data and AI systems. Solid understanding and practical use of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles in modern programming languages. Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization/orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes. Knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases, including schema design, performance tuning, and secure data handling. Background in building scalable, secure systems; familiarity with authentication, authorization, and best practices for data privacy. Ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams, communicate technical concepts clearly, and mentor less-experienced engineers. Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Interest or experience in edtech, AI-driven products, or personalized learning solutions is a strong plus.
