01Overview
VP / Head - Wholesale / Corporate Credit Role Purpose To lead the Wholesale/Corporate Credit function of the bank driving quality credit underwriting, portfolio growth, and risk management for the corporate/wholesale banking book (large corporates, mid-corporates, NBFCs, and structured finance), while ensuring compliance with RBI regulations, internal credit policy, and board-approved risk appetite.
Key Responsibilities 1.
Credit
Policy & Underwriting - Own and periodically review the Wholesale/Corporate Credit Policy in line with RBI guidelines, board risk appetite, and market conditions
Lead independent credit appraisal and underwriting for large-ticket exposures (working capital, term loans, structured finance, trade finance) across corporate and mid-corporate segmentsEnsure robust financial analysis, industry/sector assessment, cash-flow modelling, and covenant structuring for all proposalsChair/participate in Credit Committee for approvals within delegated authority; present proposals to the Management Credit Committee/Board Credit Committee as required 2.
Portfolio
Management & Risk - Monitor portfolio quality, concentration risk (sector, group, single borrower), and early warning signals (EWS)
Drive proactive stress-testing and watchlist management; work closely with the recovery/NPA management team on stressed accountsEnsure adherence to prudential exposure norms, sectoral caps, and RBI large exposure frameworkOwn portfolio-level metrics: GNPA/NNPA, slippage ratio, credit cost, rating migration, and RAROC 3.
Business
Partnering & Growth - Partner with the Wholesale Banking/Corporate Banking business team to enable quality growth in the corporate loan book
Balance growth objectives with risk discipline; act as a strong second line/independent check on business originationSupport structuring of complex transactions (syndication, consortium lending, structured/project finance) as needed 4. Governance, Compliance & RBI Interface - Ensure full compliance with RBI regulatory guidelines, IRAC norms, and internal audit/RBI inspection requirementsBe the credit function's point of contact for RBI inspections, statutory/internal audits, and regulatory reporting on the wholesale bookEnsure the role and any deputy positions meet RBI Fit & Proper criteria where applicable 5. Team & Process Leadership - Build, mentor, and lead a team of credit analysts/underwriters; strengthen credit assessment capability and turnaround timeDrive process automation/digitization of the credit underwriting and monitoring workflowInstitutionalize credit risk rating models and ensure their periodic validation Candidate Profile Experience:1222 years of experience in corporate/wholesale credit underwriting and risk management, with at least 57 years in a leadership role heading a credit function or a large corporate credit verticalPrior experience in a private sector bank, PSU bank, NBFC, or SFB with a demonstrable wholesale/corporate credit bookTrack record of managing a portfolio through at least one credit cycle (growth and stress phases) Qualifications:CA / MBA (Finance) / CFA from a recognized institute; additional certification in credit/risk (e.g., FRM) is a plus Competencies:Strong credit judgment and financial/industry analysis skillsWorking knowledge of RBI regulations IRAC norms, large exposure framework, prudential guidelinesExperience with credit rating models, RAROC frameworks, and structured/project financeStrong stakeholder management Board, Risk Committee, business heads, regulatorsTeam-building and people leadership capability RBI Fit & Proper: Candidate must be eligible to meet RBI's Fit & Proper criteria for senior management positions (no adverse regulatory/legal history, requisite experience and qualification thresholds). .
